Sun Poker moving to iPoker Network in 2009

November 19, 2008 by Sit N Go Pro · Leave a Comment

Sun Poker announced on Tuesday of this week that they will be moving to the iPoker Network, home to other poker sites such as Betfred Poker, CD Poker, and Titan Poker. Currently a member of the Cryptologic Network, Sun Poker is able to offer rakeback to their player base. The move to the iPoker Network will signal the end of the rakeback and Sun is expected to offer a loyalty program instead.

Players currently playing at Sun Poker will be allowed to play on the Cryptologic Network until January 31st, 2009. After that they will have to transfer their funds from the old account after setting up a new account on the iPoker Network. According to a representative from Sun Poker, this process will be made as easy as possible “within their current account”.

If you currently play on Sun Poker you’ll also need to note that your MPP’s will not transfer over to the iPoker Network. A special promotion is planned by the management of Sun Poker to allow players to somehow redeem these unused points. The details of exactly what that promotion will be are unavailable at this time. It’s likely a safe bet that Sun Poker simply hasn’t determined what this promotion will be or how it will be facilitated.

As to what precipitated the move to iPoker, Sun Poker officials are remaining mum on the subject. However, if any official information becomes available we will report here right away.

PPA considers class action lawsuit against US Government

November 18, 2008 by Sit N Go Pro · Leave a Comment

In the face of UIGEA being passed and signed into law by a Lame Duck President, the Poker Players Alliance is considering a very bold action to help hammer home a point, that the UIGEA is counter-productive and is a direct attack on our freedoms as US citizens. Ever since the inception of this bill, lawmakers have presented arguments both in favor of and against the UIGEA. The proponents of the bill insist that it will help curb online gambling in the US. The opponents argue that the language is too broad and will actually hurt legitimate gambling operations. Poker players argue that since poker is a game of skill, the game should be exempted from anything related to UIGEA.

In an email that went out to it’s membership today the PPA is asking poker players, in part:

“Right now, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is preparing for a potential lawsuit against the UIGEA because its vagueness will likely force banks and other payment processors to over-block lawful Internet poker transactions. Thusly, the PPA is looking for a few good men and women to stand with us in a potential lawsuit. As a paid PPA member, your support has been crucial to our successes. The PPA is prepared to underwrite the complete cost of potential litigation[;] we just need members like you to be part of our action.”

It’s not unprecedented to file a suit against the Government but it’s an interesting tactic. If nothing else, it will hopefully serve notice that the lobbying group and it’s members are not going to take this laying down. If you’re not already a member of the PPA, please consider visiting their site and joining today.

Full Tilt Poker FTOPS X concludes

November 17, 2008 by Sit N Go Pro · Leave a Comment

The $5,000 + $200 Six Handed No Limit Hold’em event concluded late yesterday, capping a great run for the Full Tilt Online Poker Series X. The unique event, which forgoes the standard nine-handed tables in favor of smaller, more action-oriented six-handed table, attracted 500 players and created a $2.5 million dollar prize pool.

Hosted by Craig Marquis, who had quite the exchange with Tiffany Michelle at the 2008 WSOP. Was sporting his new “Red Pro” status as a new Team Full Tilt member and fresh off his big win the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event cash, the tournament ran deep into the night before a victor was finally declared. After surviving a tough field of players including Marquis, who placed 24th and cashed for $17,500, the ultimate winner was Amit “amak316″ Makjiha. Amit has had success in both online and brick and mortar tournaments having ran deep in several live events. His last big score was coming in second at the World Poker Tour Legends of Poker event in 2007, cashing for $560,000.

His victory in the FTOPS X finale almost matched his biggest win to date as he took home exactly $550,000.

The FTOPS event isn’t the only big draw at Full Tilt Poker. Click here to receive a special deposit bonus offer from TurboSNG.com
